THE WHAT? The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking new powers from Congress to regulate the CBD industry, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal.
THE DETAILS The agency said that it needed to monitor products containing CBD more closely due to the safety risks involved, particularly to pregnant women and children.
THE WHY? FDA Principal Deputy Commissioner, Janet Woodcock told The Wall Street Journal, “Given the available evidence, it is not apparent how CBD products could meet safety standards for dietary supplements of food additives.”
