Ulta’s settlement offer in wage dispute slammed as ‘too low’ by judge

THE WHAT? A US$1.5 million settlement proposed by Ulta Beauty in a case bought against the US cosmetics retailer by a group of employees has been roundly rejected by a Californian federal judge, according to a report published by Law360.

THE DETAILS The suit was filed in September 2021 and charges Ulta with failing to pay the plaintiff and her colleagues minimum wage, overtime wages, for unused rest and meal breaks, sick time or reimburse expenses.

THE WHY? The judge ruled that the amount in question was too low and that the workers’ lawyers had not provided sufficient information to properly evaluate the sum.
