Procter & Gamble settles benzene class action for US$8 million

THE WHAT? Procter & Gamble has settled a class action suit for US$8 million dollars, according to a report published by Top Class Actions. The US FMCG manufacturer stood charged with selling aerosol products contaminated with benzene.

THE DETAILS The manufacturer of Old Spice, Secret and Pantene issued a series of recalls in early 2021, prompting several suits to be filed. As part of the Settlement, Procter & Gamble has not admitted to any wrongdoing.

THE WHY? The US FMCG manufacturer is hoping to resolve the allegations via a one-off pay-out to class members. The company has also agreed to implement material testing, finished product testing and other measures to mitigate against benzene contamination in the future.
