LVMH pledges to safeguard biodiversity at COP 15

THE WHAT? LVMH is presenting its plan to protect biodiversity at COP 15 in Montreal this week. The luxury goods conglomerate is announcing several initiatives in line with the Group’s commitments to biodiversity.

THE DETAILS LVMH’s biodiversity strategy centers around four areas: building a clear and accurate measure of its biodiversity footprint; avoiding and reducing its impact on ecosystems; committing to animal welfare; and regenerating ecosystems.

Examples include Parfums Christian Dior working locally to perpetuate flower cultivation in Grasse in a regenerative way or Guerlain’s program dedicated to the preservation of bees.

THE WHY? The company said in a statement, “Protecting biodiversity is essential for all the activities of the LVMH Group, whose main raw materials come from nature in its six sectors of activity. While the fight against global warming is obviously a major issue, it is complementary to the strong challenges and impacts related to the preservation of ecosystems.”
