FDA to hold listening session to hash out Good Manufacturing Practices rules for cosmetics industry

THE WHAT? The US Food and Drugs Administration has announced that it will hold a virtual listening session to consult cosmetics manufacturers on a proposed standard that would usher in quality management controls, among other good manufacturing practices.

THE DETAILS The session will take place on June 1, 2023 and will cover a variety of topics, including a exploring the implications of a national or international standard for GMPs, the economic impact of the same and whether GMPs could reduce recalls or adverse events for beauty and personal care products.

THE WHY? The session is designed to consult cosmetics manufacturers, including smaller businesses, consumer organizations and other experts to inform the FDA’s efforts in developing regulations to govern good manufacturing practices (GMPs), no doubt following the numerous recalls and lawsuits over the past few years.
