THE WHAT? The Chief Executive Officer of Evonik Industries, Christian Kullmann has told the press that it could soon reduce its employees’ working hours, according to a report to Reuters.
THE DETAILS The company could be switching to a short-time work scheme, whereby workers’ hours are reduced and wages subsidized by income support.
THE WHY? The war in Ukraine has hit Germany’s economy hard, Kullmann told the WAZ newspaper, per Reuters. “If our customers suffer, we suffer with them,” he explained. “That is why I cannot rule out short-time work in the foreseeable future.”
