THE WHAT? An image featuring an Asian model pulling her eye upwards published by LVMH-owned Dior on its Instagram account has been deleted after the brand faced multiple accusations of racism, according to a report published by the BBC.
THE DETAILS Chinese netizens were quick to seize on the image and label it discriminatory. Newspaper Global Times has called on the designer make-up brand to apologise.
THE WHY? As Global Times writes, per the BBC, “Pulling your eyes back… makes fun of the appearance of Asians, especially East Asians. We hope that Dior can face up to its mistakes, make a sincere apology and response to Asian society, and make clear statements on how to prevent similar problems from happening in the future.”
