Amazon debuts air freight service in India

THE WHAT? Amazon is now offering a logistics service in the all-important Indian market. The e-commerce behemoth has partnered with Quikjet Cargo Airlines and will use its Boeing 737-800 aircraft to deliver to cities across the country such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Bengaluru, according to a report published by Nikkei Asia.

THE DETAILS India is the third market for Amazon Air, which was launched in 2016 and operates in Europe and US already.

THE WHY? India offers huge growth potential for Amazon, unlike China, where it faces stiff competition from the likes of Alibaba. In India, it is pitted against Walmart’s Flipkart and Reliance. Akhill Saxena, Vice President, Customer Fulfilment (APAC, MENA and LATAM) and WW Customer Service, Amazon, said in a statement, per ANI News, “This marks a very important step for our sellers and our customers, as well as a huge step forwards for the aviation industry. We are celebrating a significant milestone in our global mission to transform the future of logistics.”
